"Royalty Free" images are images the rights of which allow their use for an unlimited time.
"Royalty Free" is not a sale, but a non-exclusive and non-transferrable granting of a licence that allows the use of images subject to it for the realization of any work or project and through any means of communication throughout the world and without time limits or additional costs.. The advantages are obvious. Usually the use of an image involves an inevitable negotiation of rights, the price is determined on the basis of a whole variety of criteria: use of the image, (brochure, billboards, newspaper advertising, etc.), the period of use (one-off, one month, one year, etc.), geographical area of use (local, national, European, etc.). With the formula "Royalty Free", on the other hand, once the licence has been acquired, the images subject to it can be used freely when and where desired at no extra cost! The cost of a "Royalty Free" image is therefore not determined by the type or period of use, nor by the area of use. It is important to emphasise that what distinguishes "Royalty Free" images from those of a traditional licence, is not the qualtiy of the images (there might be a "beautiful" "Royalty Free" image and a "bad" image witha traditional licence), but only the sales policy and strategy applied: it is up to whoever buys the images, on each occasion, to establish which is the most suitable and advantageous choice - whether an exclusive image, e.g. by a famous cameraman, with a high price, or a non-exclusive image with a certainly much lower cost.
